Feature 005 - ‘2024 Music Review’ Personal Project
A Personal Visual-Diary of My 2024 Listening Habits
Early on in 2024 I knew that I wanted to record and track every album I listened to from then-on-out. As the year came to an end, I had listened to 614 totally unique albums, and wanted to commemorate this feat the only way I know how - through design. I knew some sort of book or pamphlet would be a fun way to display all this information and once I had collated all the information on the albums listened (and listed in order) I began to compile this book - designing some logos and iconography that’d match the throwback aesthetic. The greys and grids were all used to evoke some sort of 90s relic of design, or some kind of Letraset product. The booklet had a clear image, and all of the images and names and titles were sequenced by month, populating the book with 28 pages of albums and info by the end.
To further fill out the content and add a more tactile and hand-made feeling to the booklet extra elements were created and included diary entries for each month of the year, a spotlight for my favourite album of the month, photographs of a record I own that I’d listened to that month, and some stickers relating to that months artist or something else. These elements populated each months ‘inner pages’, before finally transparent coloured bands wrapped around the base of each month's own mini booklet.
The rest of the project shared on the right was the result of much printing and scanning and doing it all over again, until the entire booklet was scanned through for the animation, and then scanned a second time for the display purposes of this website. You can read through the whole booklet here, see all the albums collated on the last page of the book, and the entirety of the ‘diary entry’ section printed for reading below the main book, alongside some work in progress shots and some detail scans of some of my favourite pages.
