Designing the first Merch Drop for Winners Locker

The Winners Locker team was refferred to Intermission on the behalf of Ssweatshop - a local Marrickville-based Screenprinting company - in order to help design their first apparel range, to be sold as a part of their promotional and prize services.

The team wanted something that walked the line between typical merch options, and a more upmarket streetwear brand with a sporty appeal. I was provided their Brand Guides, and given free range to explore wide range of concepts based largely arround the influence of inspiring brand ‘Front Runner’ and their approach to the similar subject matter. The initial designs took into account their red and blue colour palette, and the star imagery present throughout their branding, as well as generic sports phrases, ideas, and typical design elements that an audience may be familiar with.

Two distinct ranges of tees were designed - one focusing on traditional varsity style graphics, the other taking more notes from the American MLB and their design styles such as the logos and script text. These designs and some additional ones were then rolled out across to additional supplementary merchandise concepts like hoodies and caps before being sent off as the first draft.

Winners Locker requested some changes from here, wanting to see a more lean and streamlined look for the final designs, reducing some elements to more simple ideas, and replacing text with more brand-aligned options. As well as this, other more underlying design ideals from their Brand Guidelines were brought into the fold, such as their logo, a greater focus on the angularity of shapes, and more bold and masculine imagery.

The final range was delivered with these changes in mind, as well as mockups for a generic monochromatic range, just focusing on their logo, and nothing more. The outcomes shown are the first official range of merchandise for Winners Locker, featuring a wider variety of options, designed specifically for the AS Colour range of blank garments.
